Artistic Formation

Yuxuan Feng’s artistic formation moves between classical instrumental training, traditional compositional studies, contemporary music, electronic sound, and cross-cultural research.

At Musikhochschule Lübeck, he currently studies with Prof. Milica Djordjević and Prof. Dr. Nicola L. Hein, with a focus that includes Sound Art, contemporary music, special sound practices, and live electronic music.

He previously studied classical composition and harmony with Prof. Zhang Rui, and began studying piano from childhood with pianist Prof. Chen Lin.

Alongside his compositional practice, he is researching the pedagogy of fundamental musicianship, especially solfège and ear training. He is also engaged with Chinese music research, particularly Chinese religious music and Chinese music within or in relation to Western musical traditions.

Research Interests

New music composition, semiotics and macro-level artistic research, self-built instruments, sound and sonic art, counterpoint — including expanded counterpoint — the relation between musical object and symbolic system, and the pedagogy of harmony, solfège, and ear training.
